UTTARKASHI - YAMNOTRI DHAM

Yamunotri is one of the four sites in the Char Dham pilgrimage of Uttarakhand. According to the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas set out for a pilgrimage to Uttarakhand, they had already left for Yamunotri and then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and Badrinath. Devotees tie rice and potatoes in a cloth bundle and cook them in the hot water of this kund to offer them as Prasad. After offering Prasad to the Goddess, the devotees take this cooked rice to their homes as Prasad. There is a rock near Suryakund which is called Divya Shila. This rock is also called Divya Jyoti Shila. Devotees worship this rock before worshiping Bhagwati Yamuna.

YAMUNOTRI DHAM

Yamunotri, an integral part of the Char Dham pilgrimage, holds immense significance in Hindu religious traditions. Situated in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, the Yamunotri temple is devoted to the sacred Yamuna River, the second holiest river in the Hindu faith, following the Ganga. To reach the divine Yamunotri Dham, pilgrims must embark on a 6 km trek from Jhanki Chatti. Jhanki Chatti is easily accessible by motorable road from Barkot, which is approximately 45 km away. Travelers can hire taxis and sharing jeeps from Barkot to Jhanki Chatti. The Nearest major town to Barkot is Rishikesh, located at a distance of about 170 km.

To reach Yamunotri Dham from Delhi, you can take buses or taxis from ISBT Kashmiri Gate to Rishikesh. From Rishikesh, hire a taxi, share a cab, or use local buses to reach Barkot. From there, continue your journey to the base of Yamunotri Dham. The total distance from Delhi to base of Yamunotri Dham is approximately 425 km.

If you are traveling by air, the nearest airport to Yamunotri Dham is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is located approximately 210 km away. From the airport, you can hire a direct taxi to base of Yamunotri Dham.

If you are traveling by train, the nearest railway station to Yamunotri Dham is Dehradun Station, situated approximately 175 km away. From the station, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Barkot and from there continue the journey to base of Yamunotri Dham.
